Senators’ Allowance: Get your facts right, Saraki tells SERAP
Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has described the allegation by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) that he plans to increase salaries of senators as untrue and unfounded.
SERAP in a statement on its Twitter page raised the alarm over alleged plans by the Senate President to increase salaries of Nigerian senators to N15m.
But in a statement by his Special Assistant on New Media, Olu Onemola, Saraki described the allegation as untrue, while urging SERAP to get its fact right.
The statement reads, “Dear @SERAPNigeria, there is no such “alleged decision” to increase the allowances of Senators. An organisation like yours needs to be more careful, especially when pushing out information meant for public consumption.
“To avoid any doubt: there is no plan to amend the allowances of Senators. The tweet by @SERAPNigeria is baseless and untrue. The public should disregard this ENTIRELY.”
