In a bid to curb quackery and train estate agents best practices, the Estate Rent and Commission Agents Association of Nigeria (ERCAAN), Kwara State chapter, is organising its first Real Estate Stakeholders’ Summit and Gala Nite in Ilorin.
Speaking with our reporter at the weekend, one of the organisers of the event who doubles as the General Secretary of Kwara State ERCAAN, Omoba Adegoke Adeyemi said that the event which is scheduled for December 6, 2018 at Stella Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall will go a long way in not only uniting estate agents in the state but also enlighten tenants and landlords on their roles in the society.
“There are tenancy laws that guide landlords and tenants hence we enjoin the Kwara State Government to enact laws that will bring all real estate practitioners under one umbrella.
“With such development, we will be able to deliver our services seamlessly to the people of the state without rancour because we discovered that majority of the people that practice the profession today are quacks who are hiding under the guise of estate agents to swindle members of the public.
“On our part, we’re partnering with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), to roll out unified stickers for identification and it is compulsory for all real estate agents in the state.
The Secretary urged the public to always patronise only registered members of ERCAAN.
Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the association, Comrade AbdulWasiu Babatunde said the Chairman of KWIRS, Dr Murtala Awodun will be presenting a paper on taxation while Barr. Biola Adimula will deliver a lecture on ‘Conflict resolution among, estate agent, landlord and tenant’.
Speaking further, he said there are lots of fabulous prizes to be won including landed property, mobile phones and cements, through raffle draw.
“The Real Estate Stakeholders’ Summit is the first of its kind in Kwara State and we expect people from all walks of life including unemployed and underemployed youths, to attend the event and Gala Nite,” he disclosed.
