…as Rohr, Musa react to Okowa’s pledge

Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has promised to give the Super Eagles nine million naira for each goal they score against BafanaBafana in Saturday’s 2019 AFCON crunch qualifiers in Johannesburg.

Okowa made the promise when he addressed the Gernot Rohr led squad at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba after her first training on Tuesday evening.

Delta State Governor was accompanied by the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick and other top officials of the Sports Council from the state.

Nigeria sit on top Group E of the 2019 AFCON qualifying tournament with nine points from four matches, a point ahead of second-placed South Africa, while Libya are in third place with four and Seychelles lies in the bottom with just one point.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr and Ahmed Musa have reacted to Delta State Governor promised for every goal scored.

The German tactician and Al-Nassr summer signing admitted the incentive will motivate the three-time African Champions to revenge and 1996 winner at their own backyard after losing 2-0 at Godswill Akpabio 17 months ago in Uyo.

Rohr said: “I thank the Delta State Government for their hospitality and for making us feel so comfortable.

“I am so happy because the pitch is in a much better state than the last time I was here.

“The Super Eagles will continue to work hard to make all those who have played one role or the other in their progress happy that their investment in the team is not a waste.”

The stand-in captain Musa said: “We thank His Excellency, Governor Okowa so much for the motivation to us to do well in Johannesburg on Saturday.

“We promise that we will return here on Sunday with the victory. We will also do all we can to give the people of Asaba and the generality of Delta State and Nigerians a very good game against Uganda next Tuesday.”
