Artisans remanded for raping 14-yr-old in Kwara
One bricklayer, Tunde Isiaka and a rewire, Abdulkadri Isiaka were on Monday remanded by a magistrate court in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl (names withheld).
The duo were dragged before Magistrate Ibitayo Olawoyin for the offences of criminal conspiracy and rape contrary to section 97 and rape code.
The Police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the matter was transferred from Afon Police Divisional Headquarters to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and it was subsequently referred to the Anti Women and Children Trafficking.
The FIR said that one Suleiman Kadir of Onikoko area, Pampo village in Afon reported the case of rape to the Police headquarters of the community.
It added that Kadir was sleeping in his room when he overheard a female voice seeking for help.
It was stated that Kadir noticed some boys taking to their heels as at the time he got to the scene of where the shout for help was coming from.
He however discovered it was his biological sister – a minor – that is being sexually assaulted by the accused persons.
The victim when interrogated by his brother revealed that the accused persons deceitfully sent her to the backyard of Mogaji Compound of the community where she said the duo forcefully had canal knowledge of her.
The prosecutor, Jubril Alhassan informed the court to remand the two accused persons saying their offences are what the society frowned act.
Counsel for the accused persons, Barr. Tunde Abdul Gegele urged the court to dismiss the prayer of the prosecutor on the basis that the offences are still mere allegations which have not been substantiated.
Magistrate Olawoyin in his ruling refused the bail application of the accused persons’ counsel and upheld the submission of the prosecutor. He further adjourned the case to November 28, 2018.
