NPF, controversial organisation, says Kwara CP
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police ,Bolaji Fafowora has described Nigeria Police Force as a controversial organisation.
Fafowora stated this during the launching of a book titled, ‘The Nigeria Police: From revolutionaries to royalty’ written by Niyi Olowoyeye.
According to him, the police officers in the process of making positive changes in the society run into controversies and public condemnation.
He added that no country can do without the police for security and to maintain law, stressing that without security agents, people will take laws into their hands.
When the police is making a change in the society in the process of making that change. It lead to controversies. Nigeria Police is a controversial organisation. No country can do without police. Nigeria Police Force is a child of necessity and I want to tell you that police is your friend.
The CP saluted the writer for the courage to come up with the book aimed at enlightening members of the public and the police.
While reviewing the book, Engr Peter Ajayi Oddiah of the Department of Mechanical Engineering,University of Ilorin, said that the book is to enlighten members of the public on how the police work.
“The book wants to make people understand that the police is their friend. To make them understand that it is the responsibility of the police to make sure that a particular set of rules are obeyed in the society.”
Oddiah further said that the public expects criminal investigation process to be transparent, but stressed that it has demerits.
“If criminal investigation becomes transparent then the probability of the operation’s failure will increase, which can hamper the whole investigation system.
He added that the writer in the book represents public consciousness about police works and recommended positive social change that can help the police to develop framework to be successful at crime investigation.
“Transparency is a most important issue and the author recommended further improvement at police department to gain public support and satisfaction at crime prevention activities.”
