Late pioneer Speaker entrenched democracy in Kwara – IPAC
The Kwara state chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on the Kwara State Government to immortalise the pioneer Speaker of Kwara State, Alhaji Shehu Usman who passed on Monday.
In a statement personally signed by the chairman of IPAC, who also doubles as the chairman of the state chapter of Labour Party, Comrade Mumini AbdulKareem Onagun, made available to National Pilot, his demise was described as a colossal loss to the local government, state and the country as large.
The statement reads in part:
“We want to commiserate with the Kwara State Government, the people of the local government and the immediate family of Alhaji Shehu Usman, the pioneer Speaker of the State House of Assembly between 1979-1983 over this great loss. It is our hope and wish that the Almighty Allah will grant him eternal rest.
“We call on the State Government to consider immortalising him for his name to be written gold and for people to keep on remembering him for the good works he has done to actually entrench democracy in Kwara state.
“This is no doubt a great loss, not only to Kwara state but Nigeria as a whole as he played a very excellent role during his tenure as the speaker. The House was able to also witness full democracy in action despite the fact that the legislature comprised about three political parties. He had firm control of the legislature.
We also commiserate with the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and the 8th legislature in Kwara state led by Speaker Ali Ahmad and his immediate family.
