The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has said he never made any reference to having completed Gaa-Akanbi-Agbabiaka road, Ilorin, in the 2019 budget speech he delivered at the state House of Assembly, last week.
Speaking in the wake of accusations by residents of Gaa-Akanbi-Agbabiaka road that he declared the ongoing project completed, Ahmed said at no point in the speech did he make such an assertion.
In a statement on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Dr Muyideen Akorede, the Governor said, his speech listed Gaa-Akanbi-Agbabiaka road among 16 ongoing road projects covering 111.5 kilometres that are at various stages of completion across the state.
Quoting directly from the budget speech, Alhaji Ahmed said: “In the outgoing fiscal year, the state government recorded significant achievement in the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of rural and urban roads. A total of sixteen road projects covering a total distance of 111.5 kilometres are at various stages of completion. Some of these roads include rehabilitation of Gaa-Akanbi– Agbabiaka Road, Ilorin, Construction of Egbejila–Asa Dam – Airport road, Construction of Arobadi Maigida road, Construction of Ilesha Baruba-Gwanara road, Baruten LGA”.
Governor Ahmed stated that this year’s unusually heavy rainfall and funding challenges hampered the pace of ongoing road projects across the state.
While urging residents of the affected area to exercise patience as the government is committed to bringing the projects to fruition, the governor advised members of the public always to cross-check information to avoid wrongful accusation of public officials
