CAF Champions League: Lobi walks tight rope after Gor Mahia defeat

Lobi Stars is on the verge of premature exit in CAF Champions League following their 1-3 loss to Kenya club, Gor Mahia in the first leg away from home.

Samuel Onyango scored a brace to put the Kenyan club in a pole position of reaching the group stages of the competition.

Onyango scored two quick goals late in the first half to add to Jacques Tuyisenge’s early opener and help K’Ogalo keep their unbeaten run in the competition.

K’Ogalo just needed seven minutes to open up the visitors’ defense. Rwandan striker, Tuyisenge returned to the squad for the first time after he limped out in the victory against Nyasa Big Bullets with the opening goal in the seventh minute.

It took Lobi Stars 28 minutes to force Boniface Oluoch to a first save but the Nigerian side halved the scores from a corner kick through Samad Kadiri.

Gor Mahia, however, did not allow Lobi Stars to celebrate the goal after Onyango restored the lead in the 33rd minute for a 3-1 lead at the half-time break in a game that produced four goals within the first 33 minutes.

Onyango beat four Lobi Stars’ defenders before slotting home, a goal that once again gave the record Kenyan champions some renewed hopes that they can better their 2018 record when they exited the competition in the first round.

Gor Mahia held on to force a vital victory at home ahead of the return leg.

In the return leg, Lobi Stars will need at least two unreplied goals to advance to the group stage.
