Towards providing qualitative education, the Kwara State Polytechnic has maintained stable academic calendar in the last nine years.
This was disclosed by the polytechnic’s Rector, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu in his address at the 25th convocation ceremony of the institution, on Thursday.
Consequently, he noted that the institution has maintained its position as one of the top ten polytechnics in Nigeria in terms of patronage by admission seekers.
For academic excellence, Elelu stated that the polytechnic engaged students in extracurricular activities such as inter-institute debate to widen their horizon
He said another effort at maintaining the integrity of the institution is by making it corruption- free through establishment of Anti-corruption and Transparency Unit.
In addition, he alluded the achievements recorded by the institution to sustenance of zero-tolerance for cultism and other vices, staff training on Information and Communication Technology and running of debt-free school, among others.
On the challenges, Elelu highlighted problem of funding, non accreditation of some courses, inadequate hostel accommodation, ageing infrastructure to mention but a few.
He, however, advised the graduates to be good ambassadors of the polytechnic wherever they find themselves.
The Rector urged them to draw from the practical training and entrepreneurship skills they acquired from the institution to establish themselves as self employed graduates and job providers.
In his remarks, the Chairman Governing Council of the polytechnic, Alhaji Salihu Musa, he noted that Kwarapoly is ranked 6th among others of its ilk and one of the foremost technology-based tertiary institutions in Africa.
He further noted that products of the polytechnic are found in large numbers across the state and in all fields of human endeavours contributing to the social and economic development of Nigeria in particular.
He, therefore, called for adequate funding of the school by the state government, noting that federating units have left their responsibilities to the Federal Government through TETFund.
