After several weeks of speculation, one of the most respected coaches, Jose Mourinho on Tuesday was fired by Manchester United.
The Portuguese manager has struggled to give Man Utd the desired results on the pitch given the huge investment on players in recent years. Since the commencement of the current campaign, Mourinho appeared to have lost his dressing room. One player who the coach had a running battle with all season is Paul Pogba.
The row between the duo no doubt affected the performance of the Frenchman and Manchester Utd as team.
As the feud continued, United consistently dropped points in matches they could have picked up three points.
When it became apparent that Pogba was no longer committed to the team and giving his best, Mourinho dropped the player to the bench.
Though a thorough disciplinarian and an achiever, one area Mourinho will need to work on to remain relevant in coaching is human relation and players’ management.
He will also need to refrain from calling his players unprintable names and making unguarded comments against them in the media in his subsequent engagements.
His sack at Real Madrid and Chelsea were engineered through similar row with high profile players such as Iker Casillas, Pepe, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard respectively.
If Mourinho had managed the dispute with the World Cup winner well, perhaps he may remain at the helms at Old Trafford. Interestingly, Pogba was said to have yesterday posted a video online where he was dancing following the announcement of the sack of the Portuguese manager.
