The Kwara state chapter of the National Committee for Buhari Support Groups (NCBSG) has warned politicians to desist from media discrimination in the coverage of their political activities.
The state coordinator of the NCBSG, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin who disclosed this in a courtesy visit with his team to the National Pilot cooperate office located along Asa Dam road, Ilorin on Friday stressed that political players shouldn’t label any media outfit as an opposition.
Adedoyin who was former Commissioner for Information in the state added that journalists should always task politicians for their plans for the state and for them if elected into power
Adedoyin added that his visit to National Pilot is to break the barriers that the medium is owned by the opposition party and that it should not be patronised.
“When you go to Sobi FM, they will tell you it is APC and that Pilot is PDP, that is not so, I read Pilot newspaper like my Quran. The stereotype must end, he noted.
He also lauded the medium for its balanced, unbiased and exclusive reports about political events and happening in the state saying the act has placed the medium above its contemporaries.
“…If a media is owned by government, politicians, that is not my business, I’ve seen the professionalism I need to see in National Pilot and I’m convinced that the medium will be very fair in handling our case. I’ve convinced my team that whatever patronage we’re giving to other media, we should extend same to Pilot.
“I like to break barriers, I was here during the International Press Institutes (IPI), and we know how successful it was for us then, if we had not come here, I’m not sure we would not have been that successful.
“The challenge I’m giving the media is, anytime politicians come around, we shouldn’t be emotional but ask them why they want to govern Kwara.
Reacting, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the National Pilot newspaper, Alhaji Billy Adedamola urged the group to shun violence during election and also ensure that their campaign is issue based.
“Kwara has always been known as State of Harmony where peace reigns at all times. Many people come to Kwara to seek refuge and from what we’re seeing, all hands must be on desk and it is incumbent on every one of us to ensure that the coming election is violence free’ he added.
