Armed Robbery: 2 granted bail

The Magistrate Court, sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital has granted one Adeshina Ganiyu Abdullahi and Yinusa Abdullai Bolaji bail over alleged armed robbery.

The accused persons were said to have stolen motorcycle which they sold to one Mukaila Ismail Banke and Olabode Olarewaju.

The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that on 26th December, 2018 a letter of complaint was received from one Najeem Awojobi of No 64 Ile-Nla Area of Eruda, Ilorin against the first accused person of 22 legal study area Yebumot, Ilorin.

The complainant in his letter stated that sometimes in April, Abdullahi robbed him of his Basket Boxers motorcycle with Reg No OGUN TRE 202 OG valued at the sum of N200,000.

The FIR further revealed that the petitioner on 24 December, 2018 identified Abdullahi as the person who robbed him of his motorcycle.

Upon the arrest of the accused persons, police investigation revealed that one Gbenga Salami of New Yidi road and Kasali Abdulazeez of Sango area, both in Ilorin, came to the station and identified the accused persons as the culprits who made away with their motorcycles.

They both alleged that sometimes in 2017, the accused stole their respective unregistered Bajaj motorcycles valued at N180,000 and N170,000.

They were dragged before Magistrate Jibril Salihu for criminal conspiracy, theft, robbery and dishonestly receiving stolen property contrary to section 97, 287, 298 and 317 of penal code law.

The prosecutor, Inspector James Odaudu, prayed the court to remand the accused persons.

Odaudu premised his reason on the fact that other syndicates mentioned by the accused persons are still at large, saying releasing them might jeopardise police investigation.

Counsel to the accused persons, Barr. Toyin Onaolapo, urged the court to discountenace the submission of the prosecutor.

He prayed the court to admit the accuse to bail saying the alleged offences of the accused are not capital in nature.

He stressed that the court should use his discrection judiciously and judiciarily on the matter.

Magistrate Salihu in his ruling, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N3000,000 each and two sureties each. One of the sureties must be a community leader who is not less than 50 years of age.

The court further ordered the accused to submit their two recent passports each while the case was adjourned to 7th February, 2019.

 


…another 4 get  bail for allegedly defrauding filling station in Ilorin

Four persons were on Tuesday granted bail for allegedly defrauding a petrol filling station at Tanke area, Ilorin, Kwara State to the tune of N158,877.

The accused persons, Yusuf Babatunde, Jimoh Murtala, Yunusa Oladele and Afusat Ismail all of various addresses in Ilorin were arraigned before Magistrate Dansuki, in Ilorin,the state capital.

According to the Police First Information Report, (FIR), the first accused person conspired with his cohorts to defraud Bravo Limat filling station in Tanke area, Ilorin on 13th January, 2019.

Police report stated that the accused persons bought diesel of 648.48 litres in a 30 litres capacity of 20kegs at the rate of N245 per litre.

According to the Police report, the content worth N158.877.

The accused persons went away with 17 kegs and promise to pay for the product after they might have returned to pick the remaining 3 kegs.

The Police report added that the accused persons failed to come back nor pay for the product bought.

After the arrest, the accused paid the sum of N73,000 in order to be left off the hook.

Further investigations and confessional statement stated that one of the accused, Babatunde confessed to the crime saying it was intentionally done to trick and defraud the management and the attendants of the petrol station.

Barr. Ibrahim Taiwo Olojoku, who represented the first accused person prayed the Court to admit his client to bail.

He added that his client should still be allowed to enjoy their fundamental human right since they are still presumed innocent according to law.

Counsel to the other three accused persons, Barr. Murtala Sambo also corroborated his colleague, Olojoku praying for the bail of his clients.

Magistrate Dansuki in his ruling admitted the accused persons to bail while the case was adjourned to 6th February, 2019.
