Kwara FA Elections: Sale of nomination forms extended
The sale of nomination forms for the forthcoming elections into various offices in the Kwara State Football Association Board, which was earlier scheduled to close tomorrow, has been extended to January 31.
Secretary of the FA, Ahmed Adebayo, while making the confirmation to news men yesterday said that the extension was occasioned by the decisions taken at the Extra-Ordinary Congress of the FA held on Monday.
Among the decisions were that FA membership elections will also hold alongside those for the Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship elections, on February 14th.
The sale of the forms began on January 9th, immediately after the inauguration of the Electoral Committee.
Some of the provisions in the Statutes were also relaxed, and the Chairman of the FA, Mallam Busari Ishola said that that was done to allow the elections to be ‘free’.
Mallam Ishola, who expressed delight that over 75 percent of members were present at the Congress averred that the Congress succeeded in addressing what he termed as ‘grey areas’, and has made adjustments.
As at the time of this report four candidates have obtained forms to contest for the Chairmanship position.
They are the Chairman of Ilorin East Football Council, Alhaji Sulaiman Toyin Olokoba, that of Patigi, Engr. Idris Jibril Etsu, former member of the defunct Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Board, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Adebayo Owolabi Agbaji Wopa and the National Coordinator of Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club, Hon. Idris Abdullahi Musa (Thuraya).
Both Abdulkadri Shuaib and Umar Bolaji have obtained forms to contest for the Vice Chairmanship position.
Three members are expected to represent each of the three Senatorial Districts on the Board, and interested candidates are expected to pick forms on or before January 31st, 2019.
Screening of candidates by the Committee will hold between January 26th and 27th, while the names of qualified candidates will be displayed from January 28th.
The Appeal window will be opened from February 1st, and closed on February 3rd, with the Committee sittings holding between February 4th to 6th, while elections will hold on February 14th, at the Conference Room of the Kwara State Sports Council.
The five-man Electoral Committee is being chaired by one-time Chairman of the Kwara FA, Alhaji Saliu Ojibara.
…NFF charges stakeholders to show interest
First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Seyi Akinwumi has made a clarion call on football stakeholders and enthusiasts to show greater interest in and strive to participate in the ongoing electoral processes in the local councils and Football Associations of the 36 States and the FCT.
Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, the respected legal practitioner with over 30 years in the bar said the realm is open for those who believe they possess great ideas on how to run the game to be involved in administration at local and State levels.
Akinwunmi, who is also the Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association and Member of the CAF Committee on Youth Competitions, said those who possess ideas on how to grow the game but refuses to be part of the electoral processes are not doing Nigerian Football any good.
Electoral processes are ongoing into the local football councils and Football Associations in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory, with most of the States having already announced dates for their respective Elective Congresses.
