2019: NDLEA identifies 18 hot spots in Ilorin

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kwara State through its ‘Operation Triple Filter’ has identified 18 hot spots within Ilorin metropolis.
The agency have also arrested no fewer than 25 suspects during the operation with a total of 3,681.225kg of drug substances comprising of Cannabis Sativa, psycho and codeine seized in 12 months terminating on January 29, 2019.
Speaking to this medium exclusively, the NDLEA Commandant, Kwara Command, Barr. Ona Ogilegwu said, “This is a special operation before, during and after the 2019 general elections. We termed it ‘Operation Triple Filter’ to eliminate and arrest all persons taking drug substances.
“We have identified 18 hot spots within Ilorin metropolis and arrested 25 suspects so far. The hot spots are Gaa-Akanbi, Ojagboro, Okesuna, Kuntu, Oja-Iya, Eruda and Baboko.
Others are Saw Mill, Pakata, Oko-Olowo, Irewolede, Idi-Ape, Agbarere, Popo-Igbonna, Taiwo Isale, Offa Garage, Ganmo and Amoyo.
“In these aforementioned areas, we are going to beef up our searchlight and we are calling on the public to be vigilant and to always report any unwholesome activity to us and other security agencies immediately,” he said.
On impoundment and arrest made from January 2018 till date, Ogilegwu said they have arrested 122 suspected drugs users and dealers (104 males and 18 females).
“The seizures include cannabis sativa 3667.1kg, psycho 14.028kg, codeine 710 bottles totalling 3,681.225kg and we have convicted eight high profile people.”
The Commandant further explained that they have on DDR recorded 20 referrals for operations, which 15 of them were successfully rehabilitated into the society and five others being counselled.
He, however, warned politicians to desist from buying drugs for youths and using them as political thugs during election.
“We are fully on ground to work with other security agencies in the state to ensure violence free elections and culprits will be dealt with appropriately accordance with the law.”
