2 remanded for armed robbery in Ilorin

The Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital remanded one Abubakar Ibrahim and Abubakar Sahabe over armed robbery.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Shao Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanni Umar, in conjunction with two personnel of the  Nigeria Army, Sobi  Barracks, Ilorin on January 14, 2019, arrested and brought the accused to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), Ilorin.

Police report further stated that during a stop and search exercise conducted by the soldiers, along Pake-Oko-Olowo Federal Highway, intercepted one motorcyclist now at large, conveying three passengers.

Immediately the bike man and his passengers were stopped, one of them took to his heels while Ibrahim and Sahabe were apprehended.

It was added that after the arrest, Ibrahim attempted to disarm one of the soldiers, the action was said to have led to the injury he sustained on his leg.

When search was conducted on their persons, a total sum of N181,170.00, one cutlass, one knife, 10 assorted phones, yards of clothes, a pair of shoes and a bag were recovered from them.

During interrogation, some robbery victims named Sabalu Usman, Mahmud Umar, Nasiru Bala, Salisu Dan-Mallam, Kabiru Usman, Adamu Abubakar and Rabi Abdullahi came and identified the arrested suspects to be among the hoodlums that robbed them of their money, phones and other valuables while one Salisu Dan-Mallam identified his Tecno handset among the handsets recovered from the arrested suspects.

Investigation conducted at the CIID Ilorin therefore revealed that the accused persons and others at large were the hoodlums that robbed the victims, who were on transit from Lagos to Katsina along Pake-Oko-Olowo Federal Highway on 14th January, 2019.

They were dragged before Magistrate Abimbola Abioye for Criminal Conspiracy and Armed Robbery, contrary to section 6(B) and 1(2) of the robbery and firearms (special provisions) Act Cap R11 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.

Abioye, however said that the plea of the accused persons cannot be taken as the court lacks jurisdiction over the matter.

In his submission, the prosecutor, Adewumi Johnson prayed the court to give another date for further mention as investigation is still ongoing on the matter.

Counsel to the accused persons, Aminat Abdulraheem said they would apply formally for bail.

Abioye remanded the accused persons in prison custody while the case was adjourned to 20th February, 2019.


… 24-yr-old held in custody over cultism

The Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Tuesday remanded one Adefowora Oluwaseun over alleged cultism and for being in possession of criminal charms.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that on 23rd January, 2019 the matter was transferred from the ‘F’ Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for discreet investigation.

It further stressed that an intelligent report was received by members of the Aleniboro Community, Tanke area about some persons suspected to be cultist sighted inside a bush near the community.

Based on the report, the police swung into action and stormed the rendezvous of the cultists where Adefowora Oluwaseun was apprehended while others took to their heels.

Investigation conducted at the CIID led to the recovery of two live cartridges and some criminal charms with the accused person.

Investigation further revealed that Oluwaseun is a member of the dreaded Eiye secret cult confraternity initiated by one Jasper, now at large. Also mentioned as notorious elements terrorising the peace and tranquility of Tanke area and it’s environ who are at large are those identified as Africa, Apata,  T-Money, AY, and Emasky.

The accused was dragged before Magistrate Ahmed Ibrahim for criminal conspiracy, being in possession of criminal charms and being member of secret cult contrary to section 97 and 217 of Penal Code Law, and section 2 punishable under section 14 of Secret Cult and Secret  Societies (prohibition) Law 2016.

In his submission, the prosecutor, Nasiru Yusuf prayed the court to remand the accused person in prison pending the time police will conclude their investigations on the matter.

Counsel to the accused person, Barr. Abdullahi Jimba prayed the court to grant the accused person bail saying he will abide by court conditions and that he will not tamper with police investigation.

Magistrate Ibrahim in his short ruling remanded the accused in prison custody while the case was adjourned to 20th February, 2019.
