The African Traditional Religion and Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria have called on the Federal Government to approve alternative medicine for treatment in hospitals.
This it said could be achieved through robust legislation for effective treatment of patients, emphasising on the efficacy of unorthodox medicine in curing ailments.
The President of the association, Aare Awoyemi Abimbola Oloriawo made the call in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara State, at the weekend.
He also called for a robust collaboration between practitioners of orthodox and unorthodox medicines for possible production of more active and effective medicines in the country.
Oloriawo who is also the Aare of ‘Isese Agbaye’, said traditional medicine remains the most effective means of curing all forms of ailments using only leaves and roots as ingredients.
The president lamented that previous governments in Nigeria have neglected herbal medicine despite its efficacy when it comes to natural ways of curing all manner of ailments and spiritual attacks.
On the 2019 election, the association bemoaned the use of political thugs by politicians to intimidate their opponents, expressing displeasure over the spate of political violence in the country.
Oloriawo, then vowed that any traditional herbal practitioner that is found guilty of conspiring either with politicians or thugs to harm one group of people or party against another, will be dealt with appropriately.
He noted that their religion frowns against such act, urging youths not to make themselves available as willing tools in the hands of selfish politicians for thuggery.
According to him, no member of the association will indulge in any act that will affect peaceful electoral process, pointing out that they are fully aware of the consequences and spiritual punishment from God.
He said that none of his members will produce destructive herbal medicine either for thugs or politicians, pledging continued prayers and spiritual supports for the right leaders to emerge.
