COED graduates 1,329 students, partners Unilorin on NCE degree

 

The Kwara State College of Education (COED) Ilorin, has graduated no fewer than 1,329 students for 2017/2018 academic session.
Provost of the college, Dr Yusuf Abdulraheem made this known in Ilorin on Monday while speaking at a press briefing to commence activities for this year’s convocation ceremony.
He said the graduands would be awarded their National Certificate of Education (NCE) results during the convocation ceremony at the college auditorium.
He said the college had witnessed giant developmental strides in its human, academic, infrastructure, environmental and general dimensions.
He noted that with the improved image of the college, number of students admitted had increased from 1,800 in 2017/2018 academic session to 2,300 in 2018/2019 session.
He added that with the current trend, the college would become the most sought for in the years to come because of growing confidence in the management and the repositioning of the institution.
Dr Yusuf further stated that the college was being managed through financial intervention from the state appropriation, Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and private investors for the hostel accommodation.
The Provost listed ongoing renovation of students’ hostels under public private partnership, upgrading of college clinic under Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Programme under the supervision of NHIS, resuscitation and upgrading of Biological Garden and improvement in the college ranking in sports as some of his achievements within seven months.
Other achievements of his administration according to him included restoration of college school system in line with the NCCE minimum standards, establishment of Advancement Centre to coordinate activities of college alumni association and  establishment of sachet (pure) water business among others.
He disclosed that KWACOED Water and Revived Biological Garden which were commissioned are other avenues of funding being exploited.
The Provost disclosed that the full time degree programmes of the college in affiliation with the University of Ilorin would commence before the next academic session.
He explained that affiliation fee had been paid, while other arrangements have been perfected but the college is only waiting for the Governing Council’s approval.
