Kwara NDLEA arrests 13-yr-old boy with 4.7kg Indian hemp, 35 others

In continuation of its war against hard drugs, the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara State Command have arrested a 13-year-old boy in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state with 4.7 kilogram of Indian hemp penultimate week.

The teenager was said to have been arrested four days to Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Speaking with our reporter in his office in Ilorin, yesterday, the Kwara State Commander of NDLEA, Ona Ogilegwu said aside the teenager, 35 other suspects who are between 14 and 25 years were also nabbed adding that four among them are females.

“We arrested 25 people for drug abuse a week before the election, while the remaining 11 were arrested four days to the election in 16 different spots within Ilorin metropolis, in areas like Asa Dam, Maraba motor garage, Idiape, Offa Garage and Oko-Olowo among others.

”We usually counsel those that consume Indian hemp and prosecute the dealers by allowing the law to take its course,” he said.

According to him, more youths are involved in the abuse of drugs such as Tramadol, Indian hemp and even inhaling pit latrine.

Ogilegwu added that about three months ago, while acting on information from a reliable source, the Command confiscated over three tonnes of uncompressed Indian hemp being smuggled into the state from Ghana.

He however assured that the NDLEA will intensify efforts to stop drugs abuse and ensure sanity among youths in the state.
