The lawmaker via his twitter handle, @ Atunwa_1 yesterday, he said, “APC fake news that I have withdrawn. Wishful thinking. Stay focused… No doubts …@ Atunwa_1 is winning the governorship race.”

According to him, the next election is beyond party but the candidates’ experience, demonstrated capacity and good intention of putting Kwara first.

Rumours of Atunwa’s withdrawal from the Kwara State governorship race was widely circulated on social media platforms during the week with the headline; Breaking News: Atunwa Withdraws From Kwara Governorship Contest.

The author of the report claimed that the PDP candidate took the decision “following the recent political development and outcome of last Saturday’s election.”

Also reacting to the rumour, the PDP in a statement issued on Tuesday, by its Chairman in Kwara State, Engr Kola Shittu urged the public to disregard the fake online report that its governorship candidate, Hon. Razak Atunwa had pulled out of the race.

“The report is totally false, mischievous and misleading. Atunwa remains in the race and will emerge victorious by the grace of God and the support of Kwarans.”

Though there are over 20 governorship candidates in the state, the May 9 election is expected to be a straight battle between Atunwa, who is the PDP candidate and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
