IEDPU calls for peaceful poll

By Mumini Abdulkareem

The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has commended the peaceful conduct of the people of Kwara State during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Union gave this commendation in a press statement jointly-signed by the Union’s Acting National President, Alhaji Yahaya Ahmed and the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Abubakar Imam, which was made available to newsmen in Ilorin over the weekend.
The statement said that the union was particularly happy that no incident of violence was recorded across the Emirate during and since the elections.
IEDPU also expressed happiness over the matured manner in which the political class in the State reacted to the outcomes of the elections, which, it said, clearly indicated the inculcation of the counsel of the Union and that of the Justice Abdulkadir Orire led Committee of Surviving Leaders and Elders of the Ilorin Emirate on the need for all and sundry to eschew bitterness and violence in our socio-political culture.
The Union, therefore, expressed its conviction that all the stakeholders would conduct themselves in similar manner during and after the forthcoming governorship and State House of Assembly elections in order to maintain and justify the glorious appellation of the “State of Harmony” for which Kwara is known all over the country and beyond.
