Kwara police arrest 33-yr-old businessman for fraud
A 33 -years- old businessman, Umar Abubakar has been arrested by men of the Kwara State Police Command over alleged scam, penultimate Wednesday.
Pilot Crime gathered that the suspect of no fixed address defrauded one Mustapha Sesan of Eyenkorin area in Ilorin, to the tune of N500,000.
It was further gathered that the suspect swindled the victim of the said sum on the pretext of supplying him cattle.
According to a police source, the case was reported at the state Police headquarters by the victim.
“He said the incident happened in September 2017 when the suspect introduced himself to the victim as a cattle supplier.
” They then transacted business and Abubakar was expected to supply Mustapha with cows. The suspect collected the sum of N500,000 from the victim and absconded .
“Following the complaint by the victim, the matter was transferred to State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of the police headquarters for discreet investigation.
” Operatives were put in place for the search and the suspect was discovered in his hiding place and arrested.
” During interrogation at SIB the suspect confessed that he collected the sum of money from the victim to supply him with cattle but breached the contract intentionally,” the police source added.
He said the suspect was however unable to give satisfactory account of the money collected from the victim for the supply.
Efforts to get the state Police spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the development proved abortive as calls and text messages sent to his phones were not responded to at the time of filing this report.
