Septuagenarian, artisan nabbed for cable theft

A septuagenarian, Simon Nwakwaogu of Sawmill garage area of Ilorin, Kwara State and an artisan, Ahmed Ibrahim are currently cooling their heels in the police net over alleged cable theft.
Ahmed was arrested following his illicit operation in Budo-Osho area, GRA,Ilorin, recently, while the septuagenarian was nabbed for receiving the stolen items.
It was gathered that Ahmed and his accomplice simply identified as Azeez had vandalised and stolen electrical cables valued at N2.2m
According to a police source, the case was reported at the state Police Headquarters.
“Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID) were placed on surveillance in the area, which led to the arrest of Ahmed and electrical cable worth N218,000, was found in his possession.
“Ahmed was whisked to SCIID for Interrogation. During the course of interrogation, he confessed to have vandalised the recovered electrical cables from one of the houses within the estate with Azeez who escaped arrest.
“He further confessed that, he had earlier vandalised electrical cables valued at N1,982,000 from four houses within the said estate, ” the source added.
It was learnt that Simon Nwakwaogu aka Baba Joe of Sawmill garage, one Y.K and Aboki, both of Geri Alimi area were receivers of the stolen items.
” Further investigation led to the arrest of Nwakwaogu, who said he got to know Ahmed about three years ago when he was arrested in connection with electrical cable theft by policemen from Kulende Division. “
The police source further said that effort is ongoing to arrest the other suspects and receivers of stolen items.
When contacted on the case, the Spokesperson of the state Police Command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was yet to be informed.
