Debut goal excites new Wikki Tourists signing, Issa Gata

Although the Bauchi based outfit was on the losing side in Sagamu, the striker is pleased to open his goals account for his new team
Issa Gata is delighted to have hit the ground running with his new club, Wikki Tourists.
The former Akwa United was on target as his Bauchi side bowed 2-1 to Remo Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League encounter in Sagamu.
Gata levelled scores for the visitors after Ade Runsewe had given Kennedy Boboye’s men the lead in the 20th minute, but his effort stood as a mere consolation Victor Mbaoma’s late minute strike condemned them to defeat.
In his assessment of the encounter, the 20-year-old is pleased for justifying the trust reposed in him by his new employers, while hoping his team will bounce back from the set back.
“I am happy with the goal though I would have been happier if we got at least a point against Remo Stars,” Gata said.
“It was a tough match and we really did our best to at least get a draw but things did not work out as we wanted, so we have to put that behind us and look forward positively to our next game.”
When asked who he would be dedicating his first goal at Wikki Tourists to, the forward said the historic moment was for his parents who have been quite supportive of his career.
“I am dedicating the goal to my parents because they have been very supportive of my career, without God and them, I cannot be where I am today.”
For many, Gata is one of the rising stars capable of doing well in the NPFL this season.
A product of the Kwara Football Academy, Gata has played for Kwara United where he did well before he joined ABS FC.
With the defeat, Wikki Tourist are in the relegation zone occupying the 10th position with nine points from as many games.
