Ex-Arsenal midfielder retires

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has confirmed his retirement from professional football at the age of just 27.
Frimpong came through Arsenal’s academy but struggled to break into the Gunners’ first team as a result of serious injury problems, before leaving in 2014.
After a spell at Barnsley, the one-time Ghanaian international went on to represent Ufa and Arsenal Tula in the Russian Premier League being brief spells with Swedish side AFC Eskilstuna and Cypriot Ermis Aradippou.
Frimpong last played for Ermis in November 2017 before yet another serious knee injury looked to be cutting his career short. And the 27-year-old has now confirmed his retirement, with a message on his official Twitter account.
He said: “It is with great sadness I have decided to retire from professional football.
I have had problems with my knee for the last five years or so and have got back to playing at a professional level.
Though Frimpong never made more than 28 appearances for a club throughout his career, the midfielder managed to play his way into the hearts of those who supported him.
As such, Frimpong’s announcement was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from fans, friends and team-mates alike.
