Ganduje’s aide resigns over his refusal to concede defeat in Kano guber race

Alhaji Hashim Suleiman, the Senior Special Assistant on Urban Beautification to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has tendered his letter of resignation to the Secretary to the State Government.

In his resignation letter, Suleiman attributed his decision to the failure of Governor Ganduje to concede defeat to the guber candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, who won the election that has been declared inconclusive in controversial circumstances by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The letter of resignation, dated Wednesday, March 13, 2019, which he personally signed, reads. “I write to formally inform you of my voluntary resignation from the office of SSA Beautification.

“I thank you for offering me the opportunity to serve under your administration as SSA.”

He added that as a transparent Khadimul Islam, the governor ought to have conceded defeat, so as to serve as precedent to other Muslims, who serve Allah in truth and sincerity.

INEC had on Monday declared the state governorship election inconclusive following the allegation of irregularities in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

In a related development, thousands of residents of Kano, gathered, yesterday at the Emir’s Palace to hold a special prayer and peaceful demonstration over what they termed President Muhammadu Buhari’s desperate attempt to rig the governorship election in favour of Ganduje.

Meanwhile, INEC said it is committed to conducting a free, fair and  credible governorship supplementary poll on March 23 in Kano State.

INEC Resident Electoral Commission (REC) Prof. Riskuwa Arab Sheu disclosed this in a statement, yesterday in Kano

He said the cancellation of results in some units located within some Local Government Areas (LGAs) was due to violence and over voting.

“Results were cancelled in 210 Polling Units constituting 88 Registration Areas,” he said.

According to him, the affected Polling Units have a total number of 128,572 registered voters, while the margin between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) is only 26, 655.

He said the PDP candidate currently has 1, 014, 474 votes while his APC counterpart had 987, 819 votes.

He explained that the cancellation is in compliance with Section 41 (e) of the Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of 2019 General Elections.
