The men of Kwara State Police Command penultimate Saturday arrested a 34- year-old man, Korede Muritala for allegedly assaulting a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sarafa Bakare in Offa.
Muritala, who is said to be a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his accomplices reportedly attacked his victim in front of Gentlemen Abdulsalam Hospital and beat him to a pulp.
According to police source, the case was reported at the Divisional Police Station, Offa.
” The victim was beaten and sustained injuries on his body during the attack. He was also dispossesed of the sum of N10,000 that was on him at the time of the attack,” the source explained.
The source disclosed that the police kept surveillance and were able to apprehend the suspect.
It was gathered that the case was transferred from Offa to the Investigation and Intelligence Department at the state Police Headquarters.
The police source further disclosed that the suspect was transfered to Police State headquarters at the criminal and Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
“During interrogation, the suspect who confessed to the crime, identified his accomplices as Afeez aka Leko, Saheed Ogun, Jamiu aka Tipper and Wasiu Akorede
” Investigation into the matter is still on and efforts are ongoing to arrest the other suspects. Muritala will be charged to court soon,” the source added.
Efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, proved abortive as calls to his phone did not connect and text messages not delivered, at the time of filing this report.
