Five suspected hoodlums arrested by men of Kwara State Police Command for illegal possession of firearm, in Ilorin, penultimate Sunday, will soon be charged to court, Pilot Crime has learnt.
The suspects are Abdulkadir Nureni, Kolawole Sulaiman, Mustapha Mahmud, Sulaiman Olalekan and Lukman Musa.
The suspects are residents of Pakata, Idiape, Abayawo and Alore areas all in Ilorin, the state capital.
The suspects were said to have stormed and shot sporadically at residents of Abayawo community, who were jubilating over outcome of the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections.
It was gathered that policemen were deployed to the scene following complaint by some residents of the community at the ‘G’ Divisional Police Station.
The hoodlums were said to have taken to their heels on sighting the policemen, but luck ran out on Sulaiman who was caught while trying to escape from the scene while one locally made gun was recovered from him.
The case, this medium further gathered was transferred from ‘G’ division police station to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at the state Police Headquarters for discreet investigation.
“During the course of interrogation, Kolawole gave the lead which led to the arrest of four other suspects.
“They confessed to have conspired together to disturb the peace of the affected community. The suspects revealed that the gun recovered from them was gotten from one Muri who is currently at large.
“The police were able to gather that the hoodlums are known for disturbing peace of communities in Ilorin. However, efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects who are at large.
Efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, proved abortive as calls to his phone did not connect and text messages did not deliver, at the time of filing this report.
