Bakare, who approached the Kwara CP last Tuesday through his legal representative, Barr. Muftau Olobi, stated that he was attacked by political thugs who were led by Korede Muritala aka Omo-Oba.
Also mentioned in the petition as part of the suspected thugs that attacked him are; Azeez, aka Leko, Walisu Korede, Jamiu aka Tipper and Saheed aka Ogun.
The letter added that Muritala, a notorious thug is known to security agents in the state and that he’s currently having several court criminal cases.
“The recent incident occurred when our client was informed that a friend of his, Hon. Muftau Adeyemo was attacked and he had been taken to Gentleman and Abdulsalam Memorial Hospital for treatment.
“Our client, who was serving as election monitoring official on the said date at Balogun ward polling unit Offa, felt obliged to check the condition of his friend, he then sought the assistance of a commercial motorcyclist who conveyed him and his brother to the hospital,” the petition stated.
When he alighted from the bike, the petition disclosed that Bakare was attacked with dangerous weapons saying the suspected political thugs told him that, “today is the end of your life”.
The governor’s aide was said to have been rescued by passers-by after been beaten to stupor.
Following pressure from the family of the victim, the petition stated that the police came to the hospital where he was receiving treatment, two days after the attack to take his statement.
The gang leader was reportedly invited for interrogation and subsequently released.
“To our client’s dismay, not quite an hour after Bakare left the police station, the gang leader was seen riding motorcycle around Offa.
“Our client now lives in fear as a result of danger posed by antecedent and the current threat to his life…” the petition added.
