How 60-yr-old woman lost hand to attack in Omu-Aran

 

More facts have emerged on how a 60-year-old woman, Mrs Muyibat Abifarin lost her hand to an attack  in  Omu-Aran, Kwara State, penutimate Saturday.

The woman was said to have been attacked by a 25-year-old  bricklayer,  Lukman Azeez, who inflicted her with matchete cut that severed her hand.

The suspect reportedly inflicted the woman’s children, Saheed and Habeeb with matchete cuts too.

A police source divulged to Pilot Crime  that the suspect is not insane as earlier reported.

According to him, the problem started when Azeez was accused of stealing a goat by one of the sons of the woman, Saheed.

“Lukman accosted the suspect and demanded to know where he got the goat he was roasting from. In anger, Azeez  got up and attacked him with a cutlass, inflicting a deep cut on his head.

” When the mother and brother  of the victim heard about the incident, they rushed down to the scene. And,  on sighting them the suspect attacked them with the same matchete.

“The woman in an attempt to  prevent the matchete from cutting her head, blocked it with her hand. Consequently, her wrist was severed.  Habeeb in the process of rescuing his mother was matcheted on the hand too,” the source explained.

It was further gathered that the case was reported at the Divisional Police Station in Omu-Aran and later transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

” During the course of investigation, Azeez confessed to have macheted the mother and her two sons, for questioning him over the goat, which they suspected was stolen,” the source added.

When contacted on the matter, the  state Police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said the command was still investigating the matter, adding that the suspect will be charged to court if found guilty on the matter.

It would be recalled that earlier reports had it that the suspect showed signs of insanity and also attacked two of his co-tenants at Orolodo area of Omu-Aran.

Abifarin, who had her left hand severed, was said to have been rushed to Ajisafe Hospital in the community while the other two victims with varying degree of injuries were also been treated at Omu-Aran General Hospital.
