Kwara Badminton gets new Chairman
Kwara state badminton associate has appoints Engr. Sulaiman Wara as its substantive chairman.
The decision was reached last Friday at its inaugural meeting held at the Conference room of the State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
Members of the Association unanimously upgraded Engineer Warah who was its immediate Vice chairman to the position of Chairman based on his track records and performances.
The meeting also confirmed the appointment of Mr Tunde Akande as its first Vice chairman and Professor Abdulfatai Olokoba as its second vice chairman.
Speaking shortly after his elevation, Engineer Warah charged members of the new board to work assiduously for the upliftment of the game of Badminton in the State and the Nation in general.
He recalled that the State use to dominate the game of Badminton and had produced seasoned athletes that had represented the State and the Nation in international championships.
Engr Warah called on members not to rest on their oars to turn around the game in the State and build on its past successes.
The new chairman urged them to be ready to use their resources, time and contacts to promote the game of Badminton in the State adding that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of managing sports.
The Chairman noted that the new board would focus on aggressive talent hunts particularly at the grassroots with the aim of discovering potential talents that would be nurtured to stardom.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Association commended the outgoing government on its efforts on sports development in the state.
“We congratulate the governor-elect, Abdulraham Abdulrasaq, on his success at the poll. We urge him to focus more on grassroots talent hunt and immediate renovation of the indoor Sports Hall and other facilities in the state’s Stadium complex to positively engage youth in sporting activities”, the Association said.
The Association also called on individuals and corporate bodies to partner with it in its resolve to develop the game in the state.
More than N1million was raised among members of the association to commence the running of the association.
