NANS calls for improved infrastructure, better funding of tertiary education

The National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee (NANS, JCC) Kwara State chapter has charged the Kwara State Government on better funding and provision of infrastructure in government-owned tertiary institutions across the state.
In a press statement signed last Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Adeshina Ismail and Chairman, Comrade Saheed Olosasa, the association wants the state government to embark on massive overhauling of the sector and completion of several projects in various tertiary institutions.
The association also called for a reduction in tuition paid by students across various tertiary institutions in the state.
The association said it noticed infrastructural deficit during a recent visit led by Comrade Saheed Olosasa to the Kwara State College of Nursing, Oke-Ode.
NANS added that security of lives and property on the campus is under threat while the institution had remained in darkness since May 2017.
“Students should not be the one from which the revenue to fund education will be generated, but the government’s underfunding has always been the excuse for direct and indirect generation of funds internally at the expense of the welfare of students,” NANS added.
