Land Dispute: Kwara broadcaster beaten to coma in Ilorin
A veteran broadcaster and former Chairman of the Radio Kwara Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhaji Abdullahi Adisa-Akodudu was last Thursday attacked and beaten to coma by the suspected hoodlums over land dispute in llorin, Kwara State.
The attack occurred at lrewolede Housing Estate along Yidi road where suspected hoodlums were demolishing two structures on the disputed land.
The victim who is the chairman of Landlords association of the estate for over 13 years, was said to be the rightful owner of the land.
It was gathered that the veteran journalist was physically assaulted by the suspected hoodlums for questioning them over their action.
The suspected hoodlums reportedly took to their heels after the assault to avoid being nabbed by either the residents or security operatives.
It was further gathered that Akodudu was later discovered by people within the vicinity with several injuries on his head and legs.
According to a resident who craved anonymity for security reason, ” He was rushed to the emergency ward of the General Hospiral, Ilorin General Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.”
When contacted by newsmen, the state police spokesman, Mr Ajayi Okasanmi, said the police had swung into action with a view of fishing out the perpetrators of the act.
Meanwhile, the NUJ Chairman, Kwara state council, Mallam Umar Abdulwahab, condemned the attack on the journalist.
The chairman called on the state police command and other law enforcement agents to urgently investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators and their agents to book.
