INEC declares Wike winner of Rivers guber poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, as winner of the governorship election. Returning Officer for the election, Teddy Adias, made the declaration at the head office of INEC in the state.

He said Wike polled 886,264 votes ahead of candidate of the African Alliance Congress (AAC), Biokpomabo Awara, who garnered 173,859 votes.

The PDP candidate polled 712,405 votes ahead of his closest rival.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, had declared support for Awara since the All Progressives Congress (APC) was ineligible to field candidates in the elections.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has congratulated Wike on his re-election as governor of Rivers.

Saraki in a tweet last night, wrote, “Congratulations Governor Nyesom Wike on your decisive victory in #RiversDecides2019.
