The Kwara State High Court will today, (Monday) deliver judgement in an armed robbery case involving Tunde Zubair, son of ex-convict Yinka Are.

The case was first brought before Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the state high court in 2016. He charged for Zubairu for cultism and armed robbery.

In one of the proceedings before the court, a witness, Insp. Matthew Salami of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS); Kwara State branch, who was led in evidence by Barr. Issa Zakare testified that Zubair, had once confessed to him that he was a cultist.

Salami had said that the accused in a statement extracted from him when he was brought to their office confessed that he belongs to Eiye confraternity.

He further told the court that he was the one who investigated the matter, saying he went to the scene of the crime and equally interrogated the accused.

According to him, he showed me the logo of Eiye confraternity which was inscribed on the upper part of his arm.

“During our investigation, I went to the scene of the crime and I was able to ascertain that he committed the offence which he was standing trial for. Exhibits recovered from him were bag containing locally made cut- to-size gun, one live cartridge, hard drugs of tramado and charms.

The attempt of the prosecutor’s witness to tender the statement obtained from the accused at the police station was however truncated by Barr. Oba Abdulkadri Mogaji, who was standing for the accused even as he urged the court to discountenance it.

In the last adjourned date, early this year, Justice Oyinloye fixed today for the judgement.

Recall that the accused was nabbed on 28th July, 2016 in Osi, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

He was however arraigned before the court for belonging to a secret cult society known as Eiye Confraternity contrary to section 2 of the Secret Cults and Secret Society (Prohibition) law of Kwara State 2016 and punishable under section14 of the same law.

He was also charged for unlawfully possession of locally made gun loaded with live cartridge, punishable under Section 3 (1) of the robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act 2004.
