Suspected mad man kills police officer in Omu-Aran

A police officer, simply identified as Sergeant Abu was last Tuesday murdered by a suspected lunatic, in Omu-Aran, Kwara State.
The deceased, a station guard at the Omu-Aran Police Station was said to have been dealt severe matchete cuts all over his body, which led to his untimely death.
According to eyewitness account, the police officer was taken unaware by his assailant, whose identity could not be ascertained.
“The man who attacked the police officer showed signs of insanity. He was armed with a cutlass and other dangerous weapons.
“I was on my motorcycle when I saw the man fleeing from the scene of the attack, he had blood stained cutlass in his hand. I pursued him and other motorcyclists joined in the chase.
“He surrendered himself for arrest somewhere around Taiwo Area and the police came there to whisk him away to their station.
Pilot Crime gathered that the victim was rushed to a private hospital in Omu-aran for treatment and subsequently transferred to Ido Medical Centre in Ekiti State, where he gave up the ghost.
When contacted on the development, the State Police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi who said he was aware of the incident also confirmed death of the police officer.
Okasanmi who described the attack and death of the officer as shocking, said the police will leave no stone unturned in its investigation.
He confirmed that the suspect has been arrested, adding that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
“The investigation will revealed whether the man is truly a mad person or not.”
