A faith-based film organisation, The Truth Film Production International, on Saturday staged a campaign walk across Ilorin metropolis to sensitise youths against drug abuse.
The campaign walk which was in conjunction with the Porter’s Porch International Churches, was tagged: “Kick out drug abuse from our society”.
Participants at the walk bore placards with inscription such as:” Our resolution is drug free society, “Reach for stars, not drugs” and “Stop drug abuse before it stops you”, among others.
Speaking on the sideline of the campaign walk, Mr. Bolarin Olakunle, President of the organisation lamented prevalence of hard  drug use among youths.
He stressed that drugs can kill and destroy lives of the youth, adding that some youths begin to take drugs early while still in secondary school.
Olakunle observed that the government at all levels have a lot to do in curbing the menace.
According to him, the organisation will also stage a drama entitled: “XENO,”
which will portray the ills of drugs to youths in their productive years.
“We intend to use film and drama to ensure that youths see the end results of drug abuse,” he said.
He explained that drama is one of the best ways to communicate with the youth to make them see the evils of engaging in drugs.
Olakunle, however, frowned at the music entertainment industry in the country, which sometimes glorify drugs usage.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs Nihinlola Olawuyi, the Matron of Truth Film Production International, said the society at large is to blame for the present situation that the youths found themselves.
“We should blame ourselves, it is high time we work together, remain focused and say no to drug abuse destroying lives of our youths, ” she said.
