Kwara Rep, Ajulo-Opin, in alleged project scandal
By Mumini AbdulKareem
The House of Representative member for Irepodun/Ekiti/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Abdulraheem Tunji Olawuyi popularly known as Ajulo-Opin has been accused of false claims over projects that were facilitated by his predecessor.
Ajulo-Opin, a member of the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was elected in a bye-election to replace the late Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, Funke Adedoyin who died November last year.
There had been outcry from supporters of the late lawmaker over the alleged scandalous conduct of Ajulo-Opin over the move to list his name as the facilitator of some selected rural roads in Irepodun community that was the original project of the late Adedoyin.
It was gathered that the name of the lawmaker had since been removed from the erected signpost announcing her as the facilitator of the project.
A community source who spoke on the issue last night with our reporter said the late Adedoyin facilitated the project but was delayed because of lack of cash-backing from the Presidency under the Boarder Community Development Agency, Abuja before her demise.
A group, Funke Adedoyin Legacy Frontiers had condemned Ajulo-Opin for allegedly claiming glory with the project that was not facilitated by him.
In a press release titled; “Ajulo-Opin and his E-praisers should at least be fair to the dead and stop claiming fake glory, the Kwara State coordinator of the group, Shola Olusegun maintained that his late principal’s office was responsible for facilitating all the projects being paraded by Ajulo-Opin adding that the present occupier of the office is taking advantage of his predecessor’s death to cover up his ineptitude.
Olusegun, who confirmed he was the author of the release which trended on many social media platforms, urged the constituents to ensure they put Ajulo-Opin on his toes to avoid hiding under already facilitated projects of late Adedoyin to escape living up to his electioneering promises.
Olusegun described the action of the lawmaker as callous and gross disrespect to the dead, noting that the group will embark on street protests to demand removal of Ajulo-Opin’s name from the billboard.
Several calls to Ajulo-Opin for comment on the issue last night were not answered. Reply to a text message sent by this reporter to him for clarification was still being awaited last night before the paper went to bed.
But the National President of Omu-Aran Descendant Union (ODU), Chief Bisi Adeyemi while speaking in a telephone chat last night said the accusations were untrue.
According to him, “When late Funke Adedoyin was there and she brought the road project, we shouted her name loud and clear. And now that our son is there and privileged to start something, Omu-Aran community we are very happy and really proud of him. Who is feeding you with such news? The executive of ODU had a meeting with him yesterday (Saturday) and we had a discussion before he started doing what he did.
“You know people play politics with everything. The road he just tarred is a short distance to the palace of the Olomu of Omu-Aran and he has been the one to do this for us. Its part of our project listed among the project the community people want to do and he has done it for us. You know that the enemies will not be happy”, he submitted.
