Ramadan: Cleric tasks Muslims on alms giving

By Ahmed Ajikobi
The Imam of Al-Hamdulillahi Central Mosque, Flower Garden area, G.R.A, Ilorin, Ustaz Zakariya Mustapha, has urged Muslims to engage in alms giving in the holy month of Ramadan to earn more reward from almighty Allah.
He said any good deed done by Muslims in the month of forgiveness will serve as mercy for them in the sight of Allah.
The Imam gave the admonition during his sermon at the Juma’at service on Friday, adding that Muslims should avoid any kind of act that could render their fasting void.
Mustapha further said that Allah’s mercy and blessings in the month of Ramadan supersedes that of any other month and encouraged faithful to redouble their efforts in performance of meritorious deeds during the month.
He charged Muslims who are well-to-do to engage in more Sadaqat in the holy month especially towards the needy and worship Allah the way He commanded Muslims in the holy Qur’an with piety.
The Imam said Muslims should practice equality and equity among people, help their family members and relatives and the less privileged.
“Muslims should fast with pure faith as mandated by Allah on us and those before us. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said to the Muslims that if they know the mercy of Ramadan, they will pray to Almighty Allah to make every other month to be Ramadan because of the rewards the month.
“The less privileged and needy who have no money should also engage in good deeds towards other Muslims according to their capability.
“Muslims should not engage in backbiting among other vices that could cause trouble among the Muslims.”, he submitted.
