17-yr-old allegedly murders step mother in Kwara

For allegedly killing his step mother, 17 years old, Muhammadu Umaru of Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State is currently cooling his heels in the prison.
Umaru was said to have killed Hawawu Umaru following a disagreement that ensued between them.
The accused person’s father, Umaru Muhammadu was said to have reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kaiama before it was transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigative Department (CIID).
In the Police First Information Report (FIR), Muhammadu of Fulani camp, via Kaiama revealed that he was in his hut when he heard the accused exchanging abusive words with his late wife.
Before he could come out of the hut, his son had already used big stick to hit and inflict injuries on Umaru’s wife head, the FIR stated.
Hawawu was said to have died while being rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Discreet investigation carried out by the CIID, Ilorin, led to the arrest of the accused person who confessed to the crime.
The accused was said to have confessed that he had a misunderstanding with his step- mother who reported him to his father.
According to the FIR, the accused person further confessed that he attacked his step- mother because he’s not happy after his father insulted him over the issue.
The accused was recently brought before Magistrate Muhammed M.D Dasuki for the offence of culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of Penal Code Law.
The prosecutor, Gbenga Ayeni, in his submission informed the court to remand the accused person in prison saying his alleged offences are not ordinarily bailable.
The court who ceded to the submission of the prosecutor, ordered the remand of the accused while the matter was adjourned till 9th May, 2019.
