‘KWASU politics’ delayed my professorship – KWIRS, boss, Awodun

By Matthew Denis

The Executive Chairman of Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Prof. Muritala Awodun has disclosed that the politics in Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete delayed his professorship.
According to him, he was due for the designation of professor since 2015.
Prof. Awodun a former lecturer at KWASU was appointed the Executive Chairman of KWIRS in 2015 by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
There had been allegation against the KWIRS boss that he became a Professor about two months ago in a private university in order to replace Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’ Allah as the Vice Chancellor of KWASU.
Speaking in a telephone chat with this medium, yesterday, Awodun said, “I was due for Professorship in 2015 but KWASU has been playing politics with me. They said I’m on leave of absence, serving the government, so they cannot process my papers for professorship.
“For that reason, I wanted to resign from KWASU in 2016 so that I can pursue my professorship elsewhere but the Executive Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed asked me not to resign because of the noise it will create.
“So as my tenure is rounding off, I needed to pursue my professorship elsewhere, which I did. “
On the claim that he was aspiring for the position of KWASU VC, he said, “Anyone can become the VC of KWASU if you have what it takes to run the affairs of the school and don’t forget I have been part of the university from inception.
“I believe I know more about the dreams and vision of that university and if I have what it takes to be able to run the university, why not? But that one is not something that one really needs to be in the media to achieve. If you want something, they will advertise, you will then apply and they will interview you and if you’re qualified you will be appointed but if someone else that’s satisfactory to them will be appointed.
Awodun however frowned at those posting unsubstantiated news on the next VC of KWASU on the social media, “The people who are posting those fake news who don’t want you will begin to do social media campaign and as far as I’m concerned appointment like that are not made based on social media campaign. So those people with false information are getting it wrong trying to seek public sympathy.
“And it is not the public that will actually choose the VC but the council of the university and they are going to interface with the people that are showing interest and then determine people who they think suits the position. They will recommend three candidates to the Governor to choose one of them.”
