Kwara Police arrests 2 for stealing from travellers

Two suspects, Umar Farouk and Fatai Sulaiman, who allegedly specialised in robbing passengers of their valuables, met their waterloo, penultimate Tuesday.
The suspects who are both 19 years of age, were arrested by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command at Okoolowo area of Ilorin.
Pilot Crime gathered that the gang of thieves travelling from Kaduna State to Offa town, Kwara State in a commercial bus, were intercepted by men of the police command attached to Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit.
The Items they reportedly stole from unsuspecting passengers include a laptop and three mobile phones.
A source said that the police acting on tip off nabbed the two suspects while their accomplices escaped arrest.
“The suspects were whisked to ‘G’ Divisional Police Station, Oloje Area of Ilorin, while the case was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of state Command, Ilorin for discreet investigation.
“The suspects confessed to have criminally conspired with others at large to steal all the items from passengers enroute Kaduna to Offa.
“Further Investigation revealed that the laptop belongs to one Ganiyat Abdulganiyu while the three phones are owned by Jamiu Abdulrahman, Usman Abdulfatai and AbdulRasheed, who are all resident in Kaduna.
The source further said that the two suspects are currently helping the police with investigation with a view to arrest others at large.
Efforts to get the state Police Command Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the development, proved abortive as calls to his phones were not picked and text message not responded to at the time of filing this report.
