KWSG pays N24m compensation to land owners in Moro

The Kwara State Government has paid N24million compensation to land owners in Moro local government.
The beneficiaries of the gesture were those whose lands were revoked for the Federal Government farming system.
While presenting the cheque on Tuesday, the Director General, Bureau of Lands, Alhaji Ibrahim Salman maintained that the site would be handed over to the Niger River Basin for farming.
He added that out of the 500 hectares of land demanded, 243 hectares have so far been acquired.
“The total amount given out as compensation is about N24million for the 243 hectares acquired, though we have 500 hectares in all to be accessed.
The money was shared among the Ajanaku, Daudu Molete family and others. Also among the beneficiaries are 32 farmers who have been raising crops on the acquired lands.
The DG however urged members of the community to support the government’s agency while they farm on the land by shunning any form of hostility against them.
He added that the project will attract tourists from many places saying such develops community.
Engr Tajudeen Afinni, who represented the General Manager, Niger River Basin noted that the land will be judiciously used for the purpose it was acquired.
He said, “We want to get the land genuinely from the state government and that explains why we came to the Bureau of Lands.”
