Farmer remanded over alleged homicide

A 40-year-old farmer, Sheu Abdullahi was on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by an Ilorin magistrate court over his alleged involvement in the killing of one Iku Joshua.
The deceased was reportedly shot in the head by unknown gunmen who allegedly stormed the farm settlement of one Saliu Ayinla Mohammed of Apa-Obo via Eruku town, Kwara State.
Joshua, one of the labourers in the farm, after being killed was also said to have been robbed of valuable property and cash worth N120,000.
The deceased was said to have been rushed to ECWA hospital, Egbe, Kogi State where he was confirmed dead on 15th April, 2019.
The accused was however arrested in connection with the crime for failure to give satisfactory account of his whereabout on the day of the incident.
Police investigation further revealed that the accused belong to a gang of thieves.
The prosecutor, Inspector Jubril Al-Hassan informed the court that police investigation is still ongoing on the matter, saying the accused should be remanded in prison custody.
Magistrate Olawoyin, in his ruling, ceded to the submission of the prosecutor and ordered the remand of the accused while the matter was adjourned to 13th June, 2019.

The Kwara State Magistrate court sitting in Ilorin on Tuesday remanded one Aliyu Falida Abubakar and one Suleiman Halidu over the murder of one Mohammed Bande.
The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the case was transferred from Patigi Division to the Criminal Intelligence and Investigative Department (CIID) for discreet investigation.
It further revealed that one Monday Nwachukwu, the manager of Sharp Corner Hotel Koro village via Patigi reported that the hoodlums armed with guns, machetes invaded his hotel and robbed him of his two handsets and a sum of N60,000.
The Hotel worker, Veronica Adin was said to have absconded after rain of bullets to seek refuge in a nearby bush while her room was ransacked and her Techno handset and N19,000 were carted away.
The FIR further revealed that Nwachukwu after the robbery raised an alarm which made the robbers shoot towards the direction of the noise thereby killing Bande who is a member of the gang who died on the spot. The duo dragged and abandoned Bande in the bush and escaped. Upon the strength of information detectives and vigilante combed the bush and arrested Abubakar with blood stains on his clothes and for possession of a pump action gun, six cartridges, one expendeded cartridge and two matches. Upon his arrest, he further revealed that the deceased (Bande) and Issa surname unknown are members of the gang.
They were dragged before magistrate Mohammed Dangana for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide contrary to sections 6(B) and 1(2) of robbery and firearms (special provision) act R11 laws of federation of Nigeria 2004 and sections 221 of penal code law.
The prosecutor, Nasir Yusuf prayed the court to remand the defendants to prison custody as investigation is ongoing on the matter.
In his ruling, the Magistrate Dangana remanded the defendants in prison custody while the case was adjourned to 27th June, 2019.
