Kwara Cabinet: We’re in dark over appointments – APC chair

The Chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives
Congress (APC), Hon Bashiru Omolaja Bolarinwa has said only Governor
Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq can explain why no appointments have been made
almost a week after the inauguration of the present administration.
The party chairman spoke with newsmen at the sidelines of the Grand
Iftar organised by the Kwara Consultative Forum in honour of Prof
Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem held at the latter’s Adewole residence in
Ilorin on Thursday.
Asked why the party was yet to make any appointments, the party
chairman reacted thus:
“Regarding that, I think it is only the Governor himself that can
actually comment on that. As the chairman of the party, I am not in a
position to comment on that but it is better late than never and I
guess the Governor is taking his time and trying to tread softly.
“You know that our kind of inauguration has been different from the
usual ones held in Kwara and what probably has been happening in other
states of the country. In our case, it has been low-key.
“We have a lot of people who have made lots of Aso-Ebi and other
paraphernalia of the inauguration but the Governor said his style and
intention is to cut wastages as much as possible and that accounted
for the reason the oaths taking was restricted to the council
chambers”.
According to Bolarinwa, the APC cannot afford to disappoint Kwarans
this time adding that the transition committee set up by the Governor
has done their job marvelously and almost completed it. By the time
the Governor starts to roll out his activities, I think Kwarans will
have cause to laugh”, he added.
While calling for patience on the issue of appointments, the party
chairman noted that what is happening in other states with other
governors cannot be equated with the situation in Kwara. “Everybody
has its own style and you cannot compare the style of other governors
with us here. Kwarans should fear less because the party means well
and the Governor will deliver.”
He said the party will soon come out with its official position on the
speakership since, “The Governor will still issue proclamation and I
want to assure Kwarans that he will come out with the best”, he added.
Earlier, Prof Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem stressed that the Governor “Must
form a government of the people for the people who has the kind of
passion he has to develop the state.
“We can only say he should listen to the voice of the people because
there are many things he can do. The people want good schools,
affordable health services for kids and elderly, water,
infrastructural development among others.”
He however advised the people to be patient with Abdulrazaq because
‘Rome was not built in a day’ adding that we are going to get there
sooner or later.
We cannot prescribe for the Governor who to take or not but he should
shop for people that Kwarans want, with the kind of passion,
commitment and vision which he has for the state.
