Sallah: Police, NSCDC, KWARTMA, others deploy 10,207 officers

To ensure a smooth and hitch free Eid-el-Fitr celebration, no fewer
than 10,207 security officers would be deployed in Ilorin metropolis
and other parts of Kwara State.
This was gathered last night when our reporter spoke with various
security and traffic agencies on their plans for the Sallah
celebration.
Out of the number, the state police Command will deploy about 2,500,
while the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will post
1,800 officers to strategic areas in the state.
Also, about 547 officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will
be on duty to maintain traffic laws just as the Vigilante Group of
Nigeria (VGN) will deploy 5,000 of its officers to beef up security
across the state.
Speaking to our reporter in Ilorin, yesterday, the Police Public
Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi stated that the command’s
preparedness to ensure security of lives and property during the
festive period adding that,1,500 officers would be deployed in Ilorin
while 1,000 officers would be spread to other parts of the state.
“Intelligence officers would be deployed across the state while our
stand by team would be stationed in all the area commands in case of
emergency,” he added.
Similarly, the state spokesperson of NSCDC, Bello Olorunfemi noted
that, officers would be deployed to several dark spots in the state.
On this part, the state sector command of the FRSC Peter Wihioka said
officers would be deployed across to cover the state and patrol
vehicles will be on roads.
Similarly, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara State Road Traffic
Management Agency(KWARTMA), Alhaji Babatunde Bello, said 180 of his
officers have been posted to strategic locations to ensure easy flow
of traffic.
On his part, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
Commandant, Onah Ogilekwu said 80 of his men would join other officers
for the celebration and posted to flash points.
