The Emir of Ilorin and chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari on Monday night in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital lost his mother, Alhaja Aishat Nma Sulu-Gambari.
She was 96 year old contrary to the earlier report that she died at the age of 124 according to the Palace spokesman and Magaji Nda of Ilorin, Alhaji Soliu Woru Mohammed.
A statement by the Magaji Nda said the Fidau for the late queen mother will come up on Tuesday next week at the Emirs Palace, Ilorin at 9am to be presided over by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Mohammed Bashir Solihu.
It was gathered that she died at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Oke-Oyi, Ilorin due to age related sickness after 10 days of her being admitted into the facility.
Her demise was one of the highpoints of the Eid-el-Fitri celebration in the state as top government functionaries across party divide including Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad among others witnessed her janazah.
Some of the visitors to told this medium that she died peacefully around 9:00 pm.
Speaking on her death, the Magaji Nda said described her as a devoted muslim and ghead of various Islamic organisation adding she was with her rosary and Qur’an until her death.
He said the news was broken to them at the palace when they gathered at the palace to search for the moon on the night of 29th of Ramadan.
“She always prays for the progress of the emirate and state and she was a complete princess in all ramifications as a princess, queen and queen mother.
According to the National Secretary of Shehu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the late Aishat was granddaughter of the late 7th Emir of Ilorin, Shehu Shuaibu Bawa (1914-1919), daughter of the late 8th Emir of Ilorin, Shehu AbdulKadir Dan Shuiabu Bawa, (1919-1959), wife of the late 9th Emir of Ilorin, Shehu ZulKaiani Muhammadu Gambari CFR (1959-1992), sister of the late 10th Emir of Ilorin, Shehu Aliyu AbdulKadir (1992-1995) and mother of the 11th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari (1995- Till date).
