By Matthew Denis

The Manager of Ilorin International Airport, Mr Ibrahim Azeez has
appealed to the Kwara State Government to prevail on ‘native’ land
owners to stop encroaching  on the airport’s land.
He made the appeal  during a stakeholders’ meeting recently at the airport.
The manager  lamented that hectares  of land belonging to the airport
had been sold to people by the natives for residential pupose.
“There is encroachment on our land by some traditional rulers and
other indigenes who are selling part of the land to people.
“The present secretariat of Ilorin West Local Government is built on
the airport’s land and we have reported the matter to appropriate
quarters.”
He said that the encroachment could be disastrous in the event of an
air crash, appealing to land excavators to desist from collecting sand
on the airport’s  land.
Azeez equally  raised alarm on invasion of runway by cattle in the
course of grazing, warning that the airport would take legal action
against herdsmen culpable for the act.
He called on all the stakeholders, security agencies and traditional
rulers to cooperate with the airport management to eliminate such
unwholesome activities.
” We should all collaborate to ensure safety of passengers and the
entire airport community,” he added.
