Okada Riders/KWARTMA Clash: Kwara Police arrests 7

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested 7 persons in connection
with the clash between the Kwara State commercial motorcyclists and
officials of Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority, (KWARTMA),
Pilot Crime has learnt.
Recall that the commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called
Okada, last Tuesday protested against alleged extortion and harassment
from law enforcement agents in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Aside blocking some major roads and busy junctions to register their
grievance, the Okada riders also took their protest to the Government
House, Ilorin as well as the state police headquarters.
The aggrieved Okada riders also attacked the office of KWARTMA
destroying property and injuring officials on duty.
However, giving update on the development, an officer at the State
Police Headquarters, Ilorin, who craved anonymity because he is not
authorised to speak to the press, disclosed that seven suspects have
been nabbed in connection with the violent clash.
He said that thorough investigation is ongoing on the case to fish out
all those who are culpable and make them face the wrath of the law.
When contacted on the issue on Saturday, the state Police Public
Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said the matter is still being
investigated.
“It (case) is still being investigated, the suspects arrested are
still being interrogated.”
Okasanmi, however, said that, he couldn’t confirm the number of
suspects arrested so far.
