Our administration ‘ll take sports reportage to next level – Jimoh Bashir
The newly elected Chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of the Sports
Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Jimoh Bashir has pledged to
take sports reportage in the State to the next level with the
rebranding process of his administration.
Bashir made the pledge after he was elected unopposed as the Kwara
SWAN chairman. The election was witnessed by delegates from North
Central states and officials from the national body.
He said the battle to reposition SWAN was a collective responsibility
of all members and stakeholders. The new SWAN Chairman, therefore,
sought their support and cooperation as he seeks to take the
association to the next level.
He urged friends of SWAN to criticise the association’s executive
positively, adding that the new team would soon reach out to all the
stakeholders.
Bashir, who is a reporter with the Herald newspapers, has been in
sports reporting business for over two decades, and has covered many
national and international sporting events including the Nations Cup,
National sports Festival and a host of others.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of
Journalists, NUJ, Mallam AbdulWahab Umar has congratulated the newly
elected executive of Kwara SWAN.
In his congratulatory message, Umar urged them to sustain the existing
programmes of the association, especially the annual media games,
while also advising the new leadership to seek sponsorship from
private organisations for the games.
Similarly, the Kwara State Director of Sports, Coach Tunde kazeem has
implored the new executive members to run an open door policy to
enhance unity of the association.
He also solicited the continued support of SWAN members in projecting
the image of the State Sports Council, especially, the scheduled
programmes for the 100 days in office of the present administration.
Other notable dignitaries present at the event are the Nigeria Pillar
of Sports- Chief Donatus Agu Ejike, Chairman Kwara football
association – Mallam Idris Musa, Chairman Kwara united football club –
Prince Oladimeji Thompson, Alloy Chukwuemeka among others.
Other newly elected SWAN executives are Toyin Saheed, Vice Chairman;
Olayinka Owolewa, Secretary; Ismail Ayodeji, Assistant Secretary,
while Abdulrosheed Okiki and Nusirat Popoola are Treasurer and
Financial Secretary. respectively.
