UK-based NGO donates text books to pupils in Ilorin

 

No fewer than 3,500 text books have been donated by a Non Governmental
Organisation, based in the United Kingdom (Bhamsuson Organisation) to
pupils of primary schools at both Adeta โ€˜Aโ€™ LGEA and Apalara/Adewole
LGEA schools in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, last
Friday.
In her address during the presentation ceremony at premises of the
schools, Bhamsuson Board of Trustee Vice Chairperson, Hajia Hawa
Nurudeen disclosed that the organisation is determined to assist the
less privileged pupils in Nigeria.
She said the organisation is striving hard to make Nigeria better,
adding that Bhamsuson started with the sponsorship of three primary
schools in the country with Ilorin, the Kwara State capital selected
among the beneficiaries.
She said “We have many brilliant pupils from poor background who could
not afford to pay their children’s school fees.
“We decided to support the children of downtrodden parents in the
society by provision of free relevant text books, school uniforms,
school sandals, school fees and sporting T-shirts”, she added.
She however appealed to the schools management on proper monitoring in
order for those coming behind to benefit from the free text books,
stating that the books comprised of reading books from primary one to
six on relevant subjects.
Nurudeen said that the organisation had earlier sunk a hand pump bore
hole for the use of pupils and the staff, adding that the neighbouring
communities are also benefitting the gesture.
She advised the school management to create a box as a library to keep
the materials for reference purpose and for proper up keep, promising
to donate computers later if the books were properly managed.
The Chairman of the occasion and Education Secretary of Ilorin West,
Mallam Abdulwahab Oniye appreciated the organisation for the gesture
while urging the beneficiaries to guide and protect the books.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Head Teachers of Adeta ‘A’ LGEA
school, Mallam Issa Ayinde Jimoh on behalf of the pupils and the
school management thanked the foundation for the laudable
contribution.
According to him, the books will enhance teaching and learning in the
class room even as he highlighted some of the challenges faced by the
school and implored the old pupils of the school to emulate the
gesture of the NGO in order to up lift their alma mata.
Similarly, the Head Mistress of Apalara/Adewole LGEA, Hajia Rafat
Onagun said she was overwhelmed when she was called to present four
pupils for sponsorship not only for the payment if their school fees
alone but for others school basic needs.
She noted that such opportunity has never been experienced in the school.
She appreciated the government who has been on helping hands in outing
all their best to assist the school, appealing to other
philanthropists in the society to come in aide of the school as the
available resources could not match the populations of pupils in the
school.
